«Moonlight» finalmente se alzó con el Óscar a la mejor película después de un inesperado final cuando el musical «La La Land» había sido pronunciado, inicialmente, como el vencedor de este galardón.
Los actores Warren Beatty y Faye Dunaway, que eran los encargados de dar a conocer el ganador del gran premio de la noche, proclamaron como triunfadora, por error, a «La La Land».
